I began my working life as a Therapy Radiographer and have enjoyed a career spanning 25 years. My time was spent predominately in the NHS but I also worked overseas in Radiotherapy during the early part of my career. I have since spent sixteen years in Radiotherapy & Oncology at Addenbrookes Hospital with the last ten (2010-2020) as a Breast Cancer Advanced Practice Radiographer. I feel very fortunate to have had a career I loved and feel privileged I was able to help support many people living with and beyond cancer. These days I am able to draw on this experience and combine it with knowledge and expertise I have gained as a specialised exercise professional to support many people with and without health conditions to feel better and improve their fitness and well-being.
It was after many years of commuting and juggling family life, that as a family we decided we wanted to make some changes to improve our own quality of life. In 2020 I embarked on my new career as a Senior Activity and Health Practitioner. Taking the plunge after so many years in the NHS was daunting enough but then finding myself doing it in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic added a whole other dimension to it! As it turned out an opportunity arose during lockdown to become a CanRehab instructor for the SafeFit trial providing online exercise, nutrition and emotional support to people with a cancer diagnosis. This role enabled me to combine many of the skills I had developed during my career as a Radiographer with the new skills I had gained as an exercise professional. I was sure then that I had made the right decision.
In my current practice I provide evidence based exercise and nutrition advice and guidance as well as emotional support. I am able to work with people living with and beyond cancer, those living with a range of chronic health conditions and individuals wanting to reduce their risks of developing disease or just to feel fitter for living.
Whether you are just starting out on your fitness and well-being journey, you are an experienced exerciser or you are recovering from and moving forward with a health condition, incorporating more physical activity into your life can have a really positive impact. Not only can it benefit your physical wellness but also your psychological and emotional well-being.
My experience has given me empathy, understanding and an ability to assess and be sensitive to individuals’ needs so that I can provide a person-centred approach that is right for you . For some a structured exercise programme is their ideal while for others it may be about finding ways to incorporate a little more physical activity into their day in small manageable and sustainable ways. We are all different so my aim is to provide each client with an individualised and holistic approach, promoting independence , helping you to enhance your fitness and well-being in a way that works best for you, your lifestyle and your goals.
I would love the opportunity to discuss further with you so why not get in touch to see how I may best be able to support you.
